temeraire: in the service of the king, is a book by naomi novik. set in the time of napoleon bonaparte, it is about a captain in the navy named laurence, who captures a french ship and finds a dragon egg. a few days after it is found, it hatches into a black dragon that we find out later is a celestial, one of the best kinds of dragon from china. the dragon imprints laurence, and together they fight many battles, including the battle of dover.
